Nebraska Appleseed will be hosting a free, discussion-based webinar covering the federal and Nebraska Indian Child Welfare Acts, discussing their purpose and importance to Nebraska’s Native communities and beyond, and reviewing the unique requirements each imposes on child custody proceedings. It will also discuss Brackeen v. Bernhardt, a case currently before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, challenging ICWA as a whole.
This webinar will be led by Nebraska Appleseed’s Child Welfare Staff Attorney, Alli Derr, and the Nebraska Indian Child Welfare Coalition’s Executive Director, Misty Frazier. It is scheduled for June 28, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. CST and has been approved for 1 CLE credit, which will be provided to you at no cost!
Hear Me Speak is a music event put on by Erik Brodin Higgins. The first part of the event will include the Cantata in memory of Chief Standing Bear by Jerod Tate. The second part of this event is a concert put on by hip hop artist Frank Waln. Location for both concerts is TBD.

This documentary recounts the true story of Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his trailblazing human rights court case in 1879 leading to his designation as a Nebraska hero with his statue dedicated and installed in Statuary Hall in 2019.
