Following the Footsteps of Our Ancestors

The Ponca Remembrance Walk is a 282-mile walk commemorating the route of the tribe’s forced removal from its homelands in the 1870s. Elders will begin the walk on April 29 in Niobrara,NE, and the event will culminate with the tribe signing the deed of ownership to a 19.5-mile segment of the Chief Standing Bear Trail on May 11 in Barneston, NE.
Tribal members, employees and the public are invited to join the Ponca Remembrance Walk for the entire journey, or at any of the segments along the way. Participants can walk, run or ride their bicycles along the route.
