On Thursday February 25th, the Nebraska Legislature’s Appropriations Committee heard testimony on LB185 that would seek funding for the Fred LeRoy Health and Wellness Center in Omaha, NE. Sen. Tom Brewer, the bill’s sponsor, explained that this federally qualified health center’s (FQHC) current funding is limited, he said, and the bill would provide state funding on the same level as Nebraska’s seven other FQHCs.
Ponca Tribe Chairman, Larry Wright, Jr., was the first testifier to speak in support of LB185. The executive director of the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs, Judi gaiashkibos, also spoke in support. No one testified in opposition to LB185, and the committee took no immediate action on the bill.
