Bill Johnson has spent the last 30 years in higher education working at a variety of institutions, including a state university, a community college, two Ivy League institutions and private universities. While his work has taken him to universities in every time zone in the continental United States, Johnson was recently appointed as Senior Vice President for Development at the University of Nebraska Foundation in early June. Prior to joining the University of Nebraska Foundation, Johnson served as Vice President for Advancement at the University of Nevada, Reno, Executive Director of UNR’s Foundation and was interim Director of Athletics. Before Nevada, Johnson was Vice President of Advancement at California State University, East Bay, and President of their Foundation. Bill has also spent time at the University of the Pacific, University of San Francisco as well as Georgetown University. As Senior Vice President for the University of Nebraska Foundation, Bill oversees all Development functions on the flagship campus and is helping lead a systemwide $3 billion comprehensive campaign goal. Bill is returning home to his alma mater, having received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Nebraska while a student-athlete. Bill and his wife, Casey, now reside in Omaha with their children – Grace, Jack, and Adam. Bill is a member of the Santee Sioux tribe.

Kirby Williams (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) is the executive director for Nebraska Tribes Addressing Violence Coalition (NETAV). She holds a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Missouri State University. Since 2014, she has worked in her professional and personal life to raise awareness and promote prevention of intimate partner violence against Native Americans and tribal communities. For her work in violence prevention, she was named an inaugural recipient of the Cherokee Phoenix’s Seven Feathers Award and the Nebraska recipient of the 2022 National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s (NSVRC) Visionary Voice Award. In addition to her understanding of violence against Native Americans, she has a background of knowledge and training in psychological diagnostics, statistical analysis, the impact of trauma from a physical and psychological perspective, healing from a culturally relevant perspective, and yoga teaching. She currently serves on the board for the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs (NCIA), Bluebird Cultural Initiative, and is the tribal representative for the Nebraska Domestic Abuse Death Review Team.

Dr. Rudi Mitchell is an enrolled member of the Omaha Nation of Nebraska and Iowa. He is retired from his last position at Creighton University where he served as a faculty member. Prior to Creighton University, he worked 35 years on the two Indian reservation in Nebraska in the area of human services. He is a formal Psychologist. He is a formal Omaha Tribal Chairman and a Viet Nam veteran. He is the great-great-great grandson of Chief Big Elk.

Early in the 1940s my mother’s family came to Crawford, NE from a district of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Oglala, SD. Mom met Dad, a rancher, they married and moved to work 2 sections of land in Sioux County. Of their marriage, I and five siblings were born in Crawford, Dawes County. My husband Scott and I raised our two children at HeSapa, then we moved back to the White River Valley in 2012. Together we built Nebraska’s first Earthship inspired eco-friendly home. I am fortunate that I can drive and in less than two or three hours arrive at Lakota sacred sites to participate in ceremonies at our Indigenous places of origin. Going forward I intend to support the work of healing hearts, minds, and soils. Unci Maka (Grandmother Earth) represents me, I answer to my ancestors.
