Rufus White, a member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska, has been named the National Endowment for the Arts 2014 National Heritage Fellow. The award is considered one of the “nation’s highest honors in folk and traditional arts.” White is a traditional singer and drum group lead who learned from his father and grandfather, both of whom were spiritual leaders within the tribe.
The award ceremony is scheduled for September 17th in Washington D.C.
