The Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs facilitated a meeting of tribal representatives with U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh at a listening session at the University of Nebraska State Museum on Thursday, February 23.  The meeting opened with a welcome and Land Acknowledgement from  University of Nebraska Museum host Dr. Susan Weller, followed by introductions by Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs Executive Director Jud M. gaiashkibos.  The Secretary of Labor then made brief brief remarks and opened the meeting to discussion with tribal representatives.  There was discussion about challenges, needs and opportunities present within tribal communities, with the Secretary of Labor offering some input and direction to federal entities and programs that might be of assistance to the tribes.

Secretary Walsh then took a short tour of the Museum’s First People of the Plains exhibit where he was able to view artifacts, photos and interpretive information about the history of the Plains tribes.
