Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship

A new scholarship is now available to Native American students residing in Nebraska.  Local author and University of Nebraska – Lincoln associate professor Joe Starita remarks, “This scholarship was three years in the making and I hope it lasts 300 years. It is a testament to hundreds of Nebraskans who gave generously to honor a great Nebraskan and who now want to help Native students secure a brighter future for themselves and their families.”

Granted by the Chief Standing Bear Journey for Justice Scholarship Fund, an affiliated fund of the Nebraska Community Foundation, this scholarship honors Ponca Chief Standing Bear and his contributions to America’s Native peoples. The endowed scholarship fund came to fruition through proceeds of Mr. Starita’s book I Am a Man: Chief Standing Bear’s Journey for Justiceand the generous contributions of private donors. For more information on how to donate to this scholarship fund visit the Nebraska Community Foundation’s website.
