Karl Bodmer (1809–1893) was a Swiss painter and illustrator who is widely known for his detailed and vivid depictions of Native American life in the early 19th century. His significance lies in his role as a visual documentarian of Native American culture, particularly during the period of westward expansion in the United States, which was a time of dramatic change and often displacement for Indigenous peoples.
